Terms of Service

You may read and share our pages for your own personal, non commercial use. Do not scrape the site, hammer it with automated requests, break or probe our security, upload anything harmful, or use the site to spam, harass or impersonate anyone.

We may change, pause or pull any part of the site at any time, including features that are still in progress.

Anyone may apply to write for us. Everything you tell us in an application must be true, and the writing samples you send must be your own original work. Writing produced with AI tools is not allowed, and we may decline or remove anyone who submits it.

Applying does not create a job, a contract, or any promise of publication. We receive far more applications than we have spots, and we review them in batches as our schedule allows. Unsolicited pitches and materials are sent at your own risk, and we are not obligated to keep them confidential or to return them.

If we bring you on, your assignment, fee and deadline are set in writing before you start, and you sign a job description and payment terms plus a W-9 through our editorial system. Contributors are independent contractors, not employees.

Fees are paid per accepted piece at the rate on your assignment. If we kill a piece after you have filed, the kill fee stated in your agreement applies. Rates may be reevaluated between issues as the magazine grows.

You keep ownership of your work and grant us first print rights plus the right to reproduce, excerpt and promote it in connection with the magazine. We may edit for length, clarity, accuracy and house style.

Access to our editorial area is personal to you. Do not share your login, and do not copy or forward internal material such as flatplans, pitches, staff records or unpublished drafts.

Ad bookings are confirmed in writing and are subject to space, deadlines and our approval of the creative. You are responsible for having the rights to the artwork and claims in your ad and for meeting our file specs and material deadlines. We may decline or pull any ad that does not fit the magazine. Cancellation and payment terms are set out in your booking.

Everything we publish, including articles, photography, illustration, layouts, the B4 Mag name and our logos, belongs to us or our contributors. Do not reprint, resell or republish it without written permission.

The site links to other places and relies on outside providers for hosting, email, payments and analytics. We do not control third party sites and are not responsible for their content or practices.

The site and its content are provided as is. We do our best to keep things accurate and available, but we do not promise the site will be uninterrupted or error free, and nothing here is professional, medical, legal or financial advice.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability connected to the site or these terms is limited to the amount you paid us, if any, in the twelve months before the claim.

How we handle personal information is covered in our Privacy Policy, which is part of these terms.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, and any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located there.

If we update these terms we will post the new version here and change the date at the top. Continuing to use the site after that means you accept the update.
